Get to know Amy Roepke

  1. What do you do for a living?  K-4 Reading Intervention Teacher

  2. What is your favorite thing to do outside of the gym? I love to watch my daughters compete in their sports and activities

  3. What made you decide to try Rigor? My sister had been doing CrossFit for a couple of years in WI and she told me I would love it.  At the time there were not any boxes in Blaine.   I would search online every couple of months and eventually Rigor opened and I joined the first day.

  4. How long have you been at CrossFit Rigor?  It was four years in August.

  5. What was your experience with fitness like prior to CrossFit Rigor? Well, nothing consistent since college.  I ran the occasional 5K, walked with my neighbor, and did a boot camp class.

  6. What was your biggest fear when you started?  I don’t remember a fear.  I was excited to finally get started.

  7. Favorite cheat day meal? Pizza

  8. What goal(s) are you currently chasing? I just always want to PR my lifts.  A big goal: I would love to pull a 300# deadlift.

  9. What’s the hardest part about your fitness journey at the moment? Random aches and pains that come with getting older.  It seems that I need to modify different movements more often now and that limits how hard I can push myself in WODs.

  10. What’s one thing your fellow Rigor members would be surprised to learn about you?  Before I was a teacher, I worked for an animal hospital.  I have experienced puppies being born via C-Section and got to help clear their lungs and clean them up post surgery.

  11. What’s your favorite piece of advice you’ve gotten from a coach or member at CF Rigor?   I have a tendency to be hard on myself and the coach said, “It’s just a workout. We are just working out.”

  12. How has your outlook on health/fitness changed since starting CF?  I used to work out to try to lose weight and I hated it.   Now my focus is to get stronger, to continue to increase the weight of my lifts, and to show my daughters that it is really cool to be strong.

  13. What has been your fondest memory during your time at CF Rigor? The first time I climbed the rope.

  14. Why do you think you have stuck with CF Rigor?  I was an athlete in high school and college.  CrossFit was the only workout that I found that sort of mirrored what it was like to have a coach and go to practice with a team.  The community and team atmosphere are what keeps me coming back.

  15. What would be your one piece of advice for someone who’s just joining CF Rigor? Remember that everyone was once a beginner.  Don’t be too hard on yourself.  I recently told a newer member who was frustrated by the overhead squat, that it took me a year to actually put weight on my bar. I physically couldn’t hold the bar over my head and squat.   Now it has become one of my favorite lifts.  Keep showing up.  Keep trying.  We all struggle with something.
